FOIA Request to The University of Tennessee-Knoxville Regarding Chinese National Students on May 14, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Knox Times have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to The University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Our request seeks detailed information concerning the university’s Chinese National students.

Specifically, we have asked for documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals and their respective departments. If student names are protected, we requested a total number breakdown by department. Additionally, we sought information about scholarships received by these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship. We also inquired about any recipients affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Furthermore, we requested any policies or procedures that describe how the university monitors students, including Chinese Nationals, to protect its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.

This request is made on behalf of Knox Times and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities.
