Rep. Tim Burchett, U.S. Congressman representing Tennessee’s 2nd district since 2019, posted a series of messages on his social media account on September 9 and 10, 2025, expressing grief and calling for prayers following the passing of Charlie Kirk.

On September 9, Burchett wrote, “Sickening. We don’t have to live like this. Pray for our country.” The following day, he continued with a direct appeal: “Please join me in praying for my friend Charlie Kirk.”

Later that same day, Burchett elaborated on Kirk’s legacy: “Charlie Kirk spent his life fighting for conservative principles, traveling the nation and engaging directly with people on the opposite side of the aisle. I am heartbroken for his wife, two young children, and everyone who called him a friend.”

Burchett has represented Tennessee’s 2nd District in Congress since replacing Jimmy Duncan in 2019. Prior to his congressional service, he was a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives from 1995 to 1999 and served in the Tennessee Senate from 1999 to 2010. Born in Knoxville in 1964 and holding a BS from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Burchett continues to reside in his hometown while serving as a public official.
