Junior pitcher Sage Mardjetko was named Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week after posting two wins for the Tennessee Lady Volunteers, according to an April 28 announcement.
The recognition highlights Mardjetko’s significant contributions to her team, especially during key matchups that influenced the Lady Vols’ standing in conference play.
Mardjetko began her week with a start against Radford, pitching 5.1 innings while giving up two hits and one unearned run. She walked three batters and struck out ten. Later in the week, she delivered a complete-game shutout against No. 3 Alabama, allowing only one hit—the first time this season Alabama had been held scoreless. She carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning before finishing with three walks and six strikeouts for her eleventh win of the year.
Her victory in Game 2 helped Tennessee even its series with Alabama and contributed to a series-clinching win on Monday night. In Southeastern Conference play so far this season, Mardjetko holds a record of five wins and one loss with an earned run average of 0.95 over 51.1 innings pitched, including three complete games and two shutouts.
This is Tennessee’s fourth weekly conference award this season and its third SEC Pitcher of the Week honor; Mardjetko joins Erin Nuwer and Karlyn Pickens as Lady Vols pitchers recognized this year.
Tennessee will finish its regular season on the road at Missouri with a three-game series scheduled from April 30 through May 2.
