Sullivan County ranked 37th in state for resident earnings in 2017

Sullivan County ranked 37th among counties in Tennessee by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau in August.

The median income of Sullivan County residents was an inflation-adjusted $22,594 per year. Sullivan County had 66,388 households in 2017, with a population of 156,519.

The county with the highest median resident income in the state was Williamson County. Williamson County's median income was $42,496 per year after adjusting for inflation – $19,902 more than Sullivan County. It had 73,160 households in 2017 and a population of 212,161.

Fentress County had the lowest annual resident income among counties in Tennessee, with a median income of only $15,980 per year. That was $6,614 less than the median income in Sullivan County at the time. Fentress County had 7,385 households in 2017 and a population of 17,940.
