36.7% unemployed in Knoxville in 2017

36.7 percent of Knoxville residents between 16 and 65 years old were unemployed in 2017, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The percentage of unemployed residents was less than the statewide total of 38.8 percent for this demographic group. In 2017 the total Knoxville population reached 153,054.

Out of 96,872 people who had a job, 102 were employed in the Armed Forces and 96,770 belonged to the civilian labor force.

The total unemployment numbers include residents of all ages who are not working.
