Compost Pilot Project 1 Year Later | City of Knoxville
It's been a full year since our Waste and Resources Management team launched the Knoxville Compost Pilot Project in an effort to divert food waste from landfills. With your help, 11,364 pounds of food waste has been collected from food scrap bins in the Old City and composted! This is the equivalent of avoiding 3.48 metric tons of carbon dioxide from entering out atmosphere! Thanks to our partners BattleField Farm & Gardens, City Possum Farm, Green Heron Compost Services and the many residents whose scraps are now enriching local fruits and vegetables with nutrients. Stay tuned for news on how this project is growing in 2023!
