The University of Tennessee baseball team defeated West Georgia 13-0 on Apr. 28 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The win was marked by a strong offensive performance from Tennessee, which scored four runs in the first inning, including home runs from Reese Chapman and Levi Clark. The team continued its momentum in the second inning with five more runs, highlighted by Manny Marin’s eighth home run of the season and a three-run homer from Henry Ford. Chapman added an RBI single to bring his total to four RBIs for the night.
Nate Eisfelder contributed with his second home run of the year in the fourth inning. All nine starting players for Tennessee recorded at least one hit, while Chris Newstrom and Ariel Antigua also drove in runs off the bench.
Nine pitchers combined for Tennessee’s third shutout this season and their second shutout in three games. Freshman Cam Appenzeller made his first career start, pitching a scoreless opening inning with two strikeouts before turning it over to the bullpen. Sophomore Brayden Krenzel earned his second win of the season after pitching just over an inning without allowing any runs.
With this victory, Tennessee reached its seventh consecutive completed season with at least 30 wins (excluding 2020) and improved to a perfect record in midweek contests this year. Head coach Josh Elander now holds the program record for most wins by a head coach in their first season, surpassing previous records set by Tony Vitello and John Whited.
Tennessee will next travel to Lexington for a series against Kentucky beginning Friday night.
