The Tennessee Lady Volunteers softball team won Game 2 of their series against Missouri with a 4-2 victory, according to a May 1 announcement. The game took place at the Missouri Softball Stadium.

This win gives Tennessee (42-8, 16-7 Southeastern Conference) a series victory over Missouri (27-28, 8-15 Southeastern Conference). The Lady Vols collected eleven hits and overcame an early deficit after Missouri scored first in the opening inning. Stefania Abruscato gave Missouri a lead with an RBI single.

Ella Dodge tied the game for Tennessee in the third inning by hitting a solo home run down the right-field line. In the fourth inning, Tennessee capitalized on two errors by Missouri. Dodge contributed again with a two-RBI single to left field, bringing in Maddi Rutan and Bella Faw and giving Tennessee a 3-1 lead.

In the fifth inning, Gabby Leach led off with a single and later scored when Makenzie Butt hit an RBI pinch-hit single up the middle. This extended Tennessee’s lead to 4-1. Missouri narrowed the gap in their half of the fifth when Abruscato doubled and eventually scored on a groundout.

Sage Mardjetko started as pitcher for Tennessee, working five innings while allowing two runs—one earned—on five hits, walking two batters and striking out seven. Karlyn Pickens came in as relief at the start of the sixth inning and closed out the final two innings without allowing any runs or hits while striking out four batters to earn her fifth save of the season.

Dodge finished as Tennessee’s offensive leader for this game with three RBIs from her home run and go-ahead double. Both teams left runners stranded during scoring opportunities throughout several innings.

Tennessee and Missouri are scheduled to finish their series—and regular season—on Saturday at 1 p.m. Eastern Time on SEC Network.
