Tennessee lost to LSU 16-6 in a baseball game that went into extra innings on April 5 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Volunteers, who are now 20-12 overall and 4-8 in the Southeastern Conference, saw a five-run lead slip away as the game extended into the twelfth inning.

The outcome matters for Tennessee’s season as they continue to seek wins in conference play. The Vols appeared poised for victory after scoring five runs in the third inning, helped by three errors from LSU. Blaine Brown capped off that rally with his second career grand slam.

LSU began their comeback with a home run from Cade Arrambide in the fifth inning and narrowed the gap further with three solo home runs—by John Pearson, Arrambide, and Seth Dardar—in the seventh. In the ninth inning, LSU loaded the bases and tied the game on an infield single by Jake Brown. Tennessee was unable to score in their half of the ninth, sending the contest into extra innings.

Arrambide hit his third solo home run of the day to give LSU a brief lead in the eleventh inning before Tennessee answered with a sacrifice fly by Levi Clark that nearly ended it as a walkoff homer. However, things unraveled for Tennessee during LSU’s ten-run twelfth inning, which included Arrambide’s fourth home run—a grand slam.

Evan Blanco started for Tennessee and pitched over six innings while allowing just two runs and striking out six batters. Despite his effort and early offensive support, Tennessee could not close out what would have been an important series win.

Looking ahead, Tennessee will host Northern Kentucky on Tuesday evening at Lindsey Nelson Stadium before traveling to Mississippi State next weekend.
