The Tennessee track and field program announced on May 2 that it secured five first-place finishes during Saturday’s competitions at the Jim Green Invitational in Lexington, Kentucky, and the East Coast Relays in Jacksonville, Florida. The results included a school record from Cedricka Williams in the women’s discus event.

These victories highlight recent progress for Tennessee athletes. Williams achieved a season-best throw of 60.76 meters, improving her own Lady Vol discus record and ranking second nationally this season. Her mark brings her closer to her lifetime best of 61.07 meters, which is also the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I all-time record.

In other events at Kentucky, sophomore JL Van Rensburg earned his third outdoor win this season with a shot put mark of 19.63 meters. Senior John Bruder finished fifth with an outdoor season-best throw of 18.17 meters.

At the Jim Green Invitational men’s discus event, Aron Alvarez Aranda won with a throw of 59.43 meters while Wesley Badenhorst placed second with a personal best of 58.22 meters—ranking eighth in school history for Tennessee.

Meanwhile at the East Coast Relays in Jacksonville, Cydney Wright set a personal best to win the women’s 400-meter race with a time of 51.43 seconds—fifth fastest in program history—and Traunard Folson claimed victory in his hometown by winning the men’s 100-meter dash with a wind-aided time of 9.93 seconds (+4.1).

Looking ahead, three distance runners from Tennessee are scheduled to compete at Sunday’s Duke Twilight meet in Durham.
