The University of Tennessee announced on May 11 that the No. 24 Tennessee Volunteers baseball team will host Belmont University in their final regular season home game, scheduled for May 12 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium with first pitch set for 5 p.m.

This matchup marks the end of Tennessee’s home games before they close out their regular season against Oklahoma. The game is notable as it continues a trend of midweek matchups against in-state opponents, where the Volunteers have so far maintained an undefeated record this season.

According to information released by the university, Tennessee has played four other midweek games against fellow teams from within the state and won each one. The Volunteers are currently unbeaten in all thirteen midweek contests this year, having outscored their opponents by a combined total of 141-32. A win over Belmont would make this the first time since at least 2000 that Tennessee finishes a season without a loss in any midweek game.

Head coach Josh Elander has contributed to a strong record in these contests since joining the staff in 2018, with Tennessee compiling an overall mark of 90-11 during his tenure. The team is also approaching another milestone: “The Vols enter this week with 99 home runs and will reach the century mark for the fifth straight year with one more long ball, making them the first SEC program to ever hit 100 or more homers in five consecutive seasons.” Over their last fifteen games, they have hit forty-two home runs and recorded multiple homers in ten of those matchups.

Belmont enters Tuesday’s contest with a record of nineteen wins and thirty-two losses under head coach Dave Jarvis. In series history between these two programs, Tennessee leads sixteen wins to four and has won eleven straight meetings against Belmont.

Looking ahead, after facing Belmont at home, Tennessee will travel to Oklahoma City for its final series of the regular season against No. 20 Oklahoma.
