The Tennessee Volunteers men’s baseball team will close out their nine-game homestand by hosting West Georgia on Tuesday, April 28 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
This matchup comes after Tennessee’s recent series win over No. 13 Alabama, where the Volunteers swept a Friday doubleheader and outscored the Crimson Tide by a combined score of 21-4. The Vols currently hold a record of 29-15 overall and are looking to continue their success in midweek games this season.
Tuesday’s contest will be streamed live on SEC Network+ and the ESPN app, with Myan Patel providing play-by-play commentary and Redmond Walsh serving as analyst. Fans can also listen to coverage from John Wilkerson and Vince Ferrara on the Vol Network or through streaming options such as UTSports.com and the Tennessee Athletics App.
Projected starting pitchers for the game are left-hander Cam Appenzeller for Tennessee (5-1, 3.43 ERA) and right-hander Evimael Quiles for West Georgia (0-1, 10.17 ERA). In previous meetings between these teams, Tennessee leads the series overall at 2-0, including a win last year when they defeated West Georgia by a score of 4-2.
Several Volunteer players received recognition following last week’s performances against Alabama. Tegan Kuhns was named SEC Pitcher of the Week after an eight-inning shutout effort with nine strikeouts, while Trent Grindlinger contributed offensively with multiple hits in all three games against Alabama, batting .583 with two home runs and five RBIs during that stretch. Blaine Brown also had a strong week at bat, leading or tying for team highs in several offensive categories including home runs (three) and RBIs (six).
West Georgia enters Tuesday’s matchup with an overall record of 11-33 this season under head coach Jeff Smith. This year marks their second competing at Division I level after moving up from Division II last year.
After facing West Georgia, Tennessee will travel north to play Kentucky this weekend at Kentucky Proud Park.
