The University of Tennessee women’s tennis team won against Old Dominion with a score of 4-2 in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships on May 1 at Ambler Tennis Stadium.

This win allows Tennessee to continue its run in the tournament, advancing to the round of 32 for the seventh consecutive season. The team now holds a record of 36-20 all-time at NCAA tournament regional sites.

Tennessee began by securing doubles victories on courts one and two, earning an early lead. The No. 21 nationally ranked pair, Catherine Aulia and Leyla Britez Risso, won their set decisively on court two. Francesca Mattioli and Vanesa Suarez followed with another win on court one to secure the doubles point for Tennessee.

In singles play, Katrina Scott delivered a straight-set victory on court one, followed by Mattioli’s win on court five. After Old Dominion earned points from singles wins on courts six and three, Suarez clinched the match for Tennessee with her performance on court four. “We train to be able to make adjustments when we need to,” Tennessee head coach Alison Ojeda said, “and our girls did an incredible job of doing just that today.”

With this result, Tennessee moves forward in the competition and will face Duke Blue Devils next in the second round at Ambler Tennis Stadium.
