Fresh off a successful weekend that led to a pair of career-best ITA national rankings, Tennessee junior Johannus Monday has been named SEC Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Monday rose to career-high national rankings of No. 2 in singles and No. 2 in doubles, with graduate student Pat Harper. The award marks the second Player of the Week acclaim in Monday’s flourishing career.

The Hull, England, native began his stellar weekend of singles by earning a win atop the lineup Thursday over Alabama’s 2022 SEC Freshman of the Year, Filip Planinsek, 6-3, 7-6(3). On Saturday, Monday followed that up with a dominant, straight-set singles rout of the nation’s then-second-ranked Ethan Quinn, winning 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 1 lineup position.

The victory marked Monday’s 10th (10-1) at the No. 1 singles spot this dual season as he improved to 13-1 in overall singles play this spring. Monday has won 10 consecutive singles matches, including a 5-0 start to SEC action.

In doubles play, Monday was 1-1 on the weekend, defeating Enzo Aguiard and Filip Planinsek of Alabama on court one, 6-3, alongside Harper.

Monday, a two-time ITA Singles All-American, is a combined 25-3 in dual singles and doubles matches this spring. At 13-1 in singles and 12-2 on the doubles courts, 19 of those 25 total wins are at the No. 1 lineup spot (10-1 at No. 1 singles and 9-2 at No. 1 doubles). Monday is the nation’s lone player to be ranked inside the ITA’s top two in both singles and doubles.

His dual singles win percentage of .929 is the top mark in the SEC this year (min. four matches played). Of SEC players with double-digit singles wins this dual season, Monday is the only one to also have fewer than two losses.

Monday’s previous SEC Player of the Week acclaim came on Feb. 23 last season, following a 7-0 week at the 2022 ITA National Indoor Championships. This week, he shared the weekly award with South Carolina’s Toby Samuel.

Monday’s Career Records
Overall Singles: 71-19
Dual Singles: 53-12 (19-3 SEC)
No. 1 Singles: 17-2 (7-1 SEC)

Overall Doubles: 60-22
Dual Doubles: 49-15 (11-5 SEC)
