Rhodes College Dominates in 4th Straight Win

Rhodes Men's Basketball continued their hot start with a dominating 82-61 performance against the Hendrix College Warriors on Wednesday night in Mallory Gymnasium in front of a fired up home crowd! The win gives the Lynx their 4th straight, 1st SAA win, and continues to give them the potential best start in 15 season if they can sweep the weekend.

The first half started off slow until Jalen Essick knocked down a big three. The senior forward continued his amazing start on the season throughout the first half. He co-led all scorers with 11pts in the half. The Lynx defense, 2nd in SAA, continued to make things difficult for their opponent. The Lynx forced 11 Warrior turnovers in the first half, leading to 16 points. Zavien Williams was the defensive leader of the half, leading all players with 2 steals. Phil Dotson, freshman guard, provided a spark off the bench totaling 11pts in the half on 4-7 shooting, including 3-5 from three. Koki Wiley, 2nd in SAA in rebounding, continued his board-crashing ways with 4 rebounds in the half. Forward Arness Georgetown II seemed to be the Lynx secret ingredient. He led all players in +/- with +25. The Warriors attempted to close the gap with a 7-0 run toward the end of the half, but the Lynx responded with a 15-0 run of their own, and closed the half with a 45-28 lead.

The 2nd half was complete domination from the Lynx from start to finish. The largest Lynx lead was 32. Guard Jefferson Walker showed his senior leadership in the half with multiple assists while also adding a few baskets of his own. The Lynx starters were all over the floor making an impact. 4 of the 5 starters were in double-figures by the final buzzer. Coach Goodson emptied his bench with about 7 min to go in the half, giving the home crowd some fun moments with a few fan favorites. Freshman Luke Cooper was extremely efficient in his time on the court going 3-3 for 6pts.

The Lynx winning streak is a testament to the culture Coach Goodson is building at Rhodes. The team's focus on the defensive end of the floor continues to be their bread and butter. The Lynx finished the night forcing 17 turnovers from the Warriors.

The Lynx look to extend their streak to 5 on Friday night at 7pm in Mallory Gymnasium in the first game of the Rhodes Classic.
