For Abigail Thongbai, a first-generation college student who grew up in rural Sylvester, Georgia, transferring to UT was a big transition. However, Thongbai found her place at UT as she discovered her passion for helping others and got involved with a diverse student community.
“It’s really been instilled in me that you don’t do it alone,” says Thongbai. “It’s teams. It’s finding community. It’s finding a family.”
From learning American Sign Language, to engaging with others at the UTK Center for Global Engagement International House, Thongbai's time at UT has been full of opportunities to discover her passion and career goals. After graduating this month, Thongbai will remain on Rocky Top as she launches a career in human resources at UT.
